Dr. Thompson received his medical degree at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, California, where he graduated with highest honors. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center where he was selected as Chief Resident. He went on to complete a Cardiovascular Medicine and Interventional Cardiology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin.
Dr. Thompson is trained in interventional cardiology and performs various procedures, including angioplasty and stents on the coronary arteries and peripheral vascular system. He is certified to perform advanced techniques, including the repair of congenital heart defects such as atrial septal defects and patent foramen ovales. He is also board certified in Nuclear Cardiology and trained in cardiac computed tomography.
Dr. Thompson believes comprehensive, quality care includes personalized education, guidance and support for each patient. That’s only possible by first gaining an understanding and respect for the person’s unique wishes and goals. Through compassionate, but honest dialogue, Dr. Thompson strives to help patients through what’s often the most difficult time of their lives, and to improve the quality of their lives for many years to come. He finds it satisfying to watch patients let go of unhealthy habits, adopt new positive behaviors, and effectively take charge of their lives after a heart-related crisis.
Dr. Thompson is married (his wife Kim is also a physician) and has two young boys. He and his family enjoy outdoor activities. Dr. Thompson is an avid college basketball fan and a long-time supporter of the Make-A-Wish-Foundation.
